LOXAHATCHEE VISIONS

Deadline: Entries will be accepted at the VC from Nov 8-Nov 12. VC open daily 9-4. Reception and Award Presentation Sunday Nov 20 at 1 PM

Rules: Entries that do not comply with all rules will be disqualified.
*Contest open to all artists.
*Each artist may submit one or two works of art.
*Original art only-no photographs. (We have a photo contest in the winter season.)
*The subject of the art must be inspired by a "Loxahatchee vision."
*Any media or mixed media (except photography) may be used.
*Each entry must be framed and ready for hanging. Wrapped canvas edges are fine.
*Each entry is limited to no more than 36" on each side including framing.
*A label must be attached to the back of each entry with the title of the work, the artist's name, the media type, and the sale price.
*Friends of Loxahatchee will attempt to sell the entries and will retain 25% of the sale price as a contribution to the Refuge.
*Each artist will be expected to remove unsold art after the display period ends Jan 8th.

Categories: Entries will be judged on technical excellence, originality, creativity, visual impact, and artistic merit. All decisions of the judges are final.
*There are two categories - Novice (up to age 18) and Adult (age 18 and above).
*Each category will be awarded: First Prize ($250), Second Prize ($150), Third Prize ($100).
*Judges may designate up to 3 entries in each category as Honorable Mentions.
*Judges may decide not to award cash prizes if there are less than 10 entries in a category.

Entry Fee and Form: A check or money order to The Friends of Loxahatchee must accompany the completed entry form. Place both in an envelope labeled “Friends Art Contest” and bring to the VC with the entry.

OASIS PHOTO CONTEST 2011

More than € 30,000 in prizes will be given in the international nature photography contest: OASIS PHOTO CONTEST 2011. More than 100 awards in cash, trips and photographic equipment will go to the winners. Ten winners will be selected from each category.

The competition is indeed divided in 10 different sections:

Share the Experience

The official Federal Recreation Lands photo contest. It is sponsored by the National Park Foundation and is open to all age 13 and above. Photos can be taken on any Federal Agency land-National Parks, National Wildlife Refuges, National Forests, National Monuments, etc. Entries must come in by the end of December.

South Florida's Birds: A Photographic Journal

On Thursday, February 3rd from 3:45 PM to 5:30 PM, Jay Paredes will be giving a presentation "South Florida's Birds: A Photographic Journal" at the Lifelong Learning Complex of Florida Atlantic University's Jupiter Campus. Admission is $10. More information at the FAU LLS web site.

• Each artist will be expected to remove their unsold art from the Visitor Center auditorium after the display period.

3-day bird photography course at Loxahatchee this coming January

Michael Rosenbaum is offering a 3-day bird photography course at Loxahatchee this coming January. Michael has competed successfully in international nature photo competitions, has had numerous bird images published, and has exhibited in museums and libraries in the local area.The dates for the course are: Saturday 1/23, Sunday, 1/24, and Saturday 1/30.

All three sessions should be attended. This course will provide an introduction to some technical aspects involved in bird photography along with shooting opportunities for practice and guidance. Photographers who use dSLR cameras may attend (a tripod is not necessary).

We will have two hours in the classroom (9:15-11:15 a.m.) on both Saturdays at the Visitor Center and two hours in the field (7-9 a.m.) on Sunday on the Marsh Trail for hands-on experience.
